After 10 years in the oil and gas industry working as a mechanical designer riding the ups and downs of the market I was burned out. I knew I needed a change. A co-worker I knew mentioned he was looking into becoming a web developer. He told me about this podcast I should listen to called Code Newbie and after listening to a few episodes I was hooked.

I started off learning Python but knew I needed to learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript as well. I studied with Codecademy, FreeCodeCamp, TeamTreehouse and now I was able to participate with Udacity through the Grow with Google scholarship.

For me the best part of this course has been the support from the mentors as well as my fellow program participants. Even if I am not awarded the second part of this scholarship, I am very happy with what I have accomplished so far and I am excited to see what projects I can create in the future.
